Multimedia Localization

Localization means creating versions of your marketing collateral, web site, documentation, multimedia and/or software that are translated into the language and culturally appropriate voices of your target nations. At Global Edge Solutions we have a large database of specialists worldwide covering different languages, who work directly for us to achieve these goals. Additionally they have many different specialisations such as technical, medical, legal, training and marketing.

Our proprietary localization technology 'Global-X' and Global Content Management System 'LATitude' provide a flexible, sophisticated technical infrastructure to our operations. Our technology enables rapid and cost effective results, and is designed to enable us to seamlessly integrate with proprietary client technologies and existing tools in the market.

Uniquely, this puts Global Edge Solutions in the position of being able to tailor solutions that specifically meet the needs of our clients. The cumbersome process of clients adapting their tools, technologies and processes to achieve their localization goals is avoided.

Training Localization
  • E-learning and all other types of training materials localized.
  • HTML and Flash e-learning modules adapted with SCORM and all other standards code intact.
  • Familiarity with Learning Management Systems and Enterprise level Training Systems.
  • Translation is done by native in-country translators.
  • Editing is performed by a separate native in-country translator.
  • We host the testing environment on one of our staging servers.
  • Proofreading and Quality Assurance are performed on the localized web site.
  • We coordinate the final client review with the client's chosen internal approvers.

Web Localization

From static html to server-side scripting, Flash or database-driven, we have the technical expertise to create a multilingual version of your web site.

The flowchart below illustrates our typical process for a web localization project. This process is flexible and can be modified to meet the requirements of a specific project or customer. We also have tried and tested processes for all our other service offerings. These are available upon request.

Here is a chronological overview of a typical web localization process:

Documentation Localization

Our team of desktop publishing specialists, combined with our finely tuned process, allows us to translate your documents efficiently and cost-effectively while maintaining the highest quality.

We translate documentation in any format (e.g. Quark, Pagemaker, Word, Illustrator, InDesign, PowerPoint etc.).

Our process for Documentation Localization is very similar to our process for Web Localization. We extract all translatable content from the original format and translate it in a "neutral" format. This allows us to leverage content across different formats - the savings are passed on to the customer.

Proofreading and Client review are done only after the initial translation has been reintegrated and layed out in the final format. This ensures that the context is clear for the proofreaders. Any requested changes are made by our DTP specialists. Before delivery we always have a final QA stage to make sure that the layout is perfect and all requested changes are implemented.

Multimedia Localization
  • We work with video, DVD, CD ROMs, Flash animations and all other types of multimedia.
  • Subtitles, native language voiceover and locally appropriate substitute footage created and edited.
  • Translation is performed by native in-country translators.
  • Editing is performed by separate native in-country translator.
  • Proofreading/viewing is performed on localized materials in its intended final format, by a native in-country translator.
  • We coordinate the final client review with client's chosen internal approvers.
Software Localization

Translation/Editing/Proofreading/Client Review

  • Translation is done by native in-country translators.
  • Editing is performed by a separate native in-country translator.
  • Proofreading is done on localized web site, by native in-country translators on our staging server.
  • We coordinate the final client review with the client's chosen internal approvers.

Internationalization Engineering

  • Source files are reviewed to ensure that content is engineered in the most localization friendly structure If required.
  • We internationalize the source code to accommodate for the needs of localization.

Localization Engineering

  • Text is extracted from all relevant source code or resource files.
  • All extracted text strings are compared for exact matches before being sent to translation (de-duplication). This reduces the time and cost of translation as well as increasing the consistency of translation throughout the software product and appropriate collateral (i.e. boxes manuals etc).
  • All text strings are compared to any existing client Translation Memories (TM's) to pre-translate all existing Translation Units (TU's). Again this is to reduce the time and cost of translation as well as maintaining the consistency of translation.
  • All translated and edited text is reintegrated into the relevant source files and localized versions of the product are built.
  • Any bugs identified by QA team are fixed.
  • Any final edits by proofreaders and or client reviewers are implemented.

Graphic Localization

  • All text is extracted from working PSD layered files where available, if not available our graphic designers will create PSD layered files to work from.
  • Text is sent to engineering team to perform leveraging and add text to the rest of the extracted text strings from the source files.
  • All translated text strings are reintegrated into the PSD layered files and saved out into the appropriate format (following the format of the source files).
